I would have sworn that I’d never seen it before, but in fact it must have been there for ages, before we ever even moved in.

A NOTE ON HEAVY CARD PAPER
The box was covered with thick dust when I found it. I brushed it off and carefully opened up the lid. Resting gently on top of its contents was an odd little note.

BRASS, AND GREEN GLASS
Under the note was this remarkable machine. I found a soft cloth and sat down with it to see if I could give the brass a quick shine. To my amazement, it started up at my touch, gears whirring and clacking while the vacuum tubes hummed into life. It looks very useful!

Five Essential Instructions in the use of 3 Numbers:
- Just as the hat you wear may signal your mood, so it is with 3 Numbers. An Aesthetic which flies in the face of your Preferences is something up with which you must not put! Touch the Information Symbol (a letter ‘i’ enclosed in a circle) on the Currency Converter and choose either the brazen Navigator, or, for those times when you must travel undercover, Incognito.
- To Calculate, touch the Input Field of a Calculator, and enter numbers on the Mechanism which emerges. It is possible to: Convert Currency and the Units of Measurement, Calculate Gratuities and consult a Guide to the Gratuities Customs of the World, or solve Mathematical Problems.
- With nothing more than a Gesture, you can move the Numbers you have Obtained into the three Number Holders found at the top of the Machine. Conversely, you can move Numbers out of the Number Holders, and into different Calculators! Simply touch your finger down on the number, and then move your finger over the machine’s surface as if you were drawing a line to the desired destination. You will actually see a line Appear!
- To make a Record of an Expenditure or Calculation Result, touch the Notes button at the bottom of the Machine. There you will see a button entitled “Add”, which, when touched, will present you with a new note into which you can move your existing numbers, or enter a new number, and add Text of your choosing underneath. To collect these notes using another Machine furnished with a “Web Browser”, it is sufficient to touch the “Publish” button, at which time 3 Numbers will create a one-time Address to be entered on said Machine’s “Web Browser”, where the Notes can be Promptly Obtained.
- Three swift Shakes of the Whole Contraption will fully serve to wipe away any erroneous information you may have entered. It will be as if it never occurred! Any numbers in the Number Holders will be left intact.
